I’m Konrad Andrag, an 18-year-old wildlife photographer from Cape Town, South Africa. My journey into wildlife photography began in 2021 on a family trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. With my dad’s old Canon 7D in hand, I was captivated by the wildlife around me and felt an overwhelming urge to capture it—not just as photographs, but as stories. That trip ignited a passion to document the beauty of the wild in a way that’s both authentic and visually powerful.
In 2022, I started taking photography seriously, and that year I earned my first shortlist in the South African Photographer of the Year (SAPOTY) competition. In 2023, I was honored to have three more images shortlisted in SAPOTY, to be featured by National Geographic, and to win the BirdLife SA Youth Photography Competition. One of my proudest achievements so far has been having my winning photo on the cover of BirdLife Africa magazine in October 2024. Each of these moments has fueled my dedication to capturing wildlife with a perspective that merges storytelling and artistry.
Every image I create is a testament to the incredible world we live in and a reminder of its fragility. Thank you for being part of this journey—I hope my photos inspire a sense of wonder and a commitment to preserving the natural world.
Now that I’ve completed school, I’m excited to spend the next year fully immersed in photography. I’ll be traveling across Southern Africa, exploring its landscapes, deepening my portfolio, and preparing to lead photo safaris. My future goal is to offer unique photography tours that help others connect with and capture the wonders of nature.
